Reef Investor Q&A with Roger Lim, Partner at NGC Ventures and Kinsa Durst, Marketing & Operations at Reef Finance

We were lucky to sit down with one of our lead investors for Reef Finance, Roger Lim at NGC Ventures. NGC Ventures is one of the largest institutional investors of blockchain and distributed ledger technologies, and has been a key contributor to a number of leading blockchain projects. NGC is an investor in Bifrost, Kira Core, Hedget, Phemex, and Vega Protocol among others.

Kinsa Durst: Hi Roger, thank you for joining us today. Why did you and the NGC Ventures team decide to invest in Reef Finance?

>Roger Lim: Hey Kinsa, thank you for having me. Two key aspects. Firstly, we like the team, they are smart and innovative; and we like the vision of Reef being a go-to place for DeFi accelerating mainstream adoption.

Kinsa: What is your view on the current DeFi hype cycle?

>Roger: Blockchain & DeFi have a bunch of very smart people who have built great products like Compound, YFI, Curve and SNX (too many to list here). It is a great first step for DeFi and the community needs to continue innovating and disrupting the centralized financial system. Along these waves of innovation there will be corresponding boom and bust cycles. From a practical perspective, I would be taking opportunities during the boom and hype and investing tomorrow’s innovation during the bust cycle.

Kinsa: What are some of your other portfolio companies?

>Roger: NGC Ventures has been investing in blockchain since 2017 supporting many projects in the space including Polkadot, xDai, Skalelabs, Chromia, Hedget, Kira, Linear and of course, Reef Finance to name a few!

Kinsa: What do you think is the most important ingredient to success as a DeFi project?

>Roger: I would say two ingredients are crucial: (a) great teams and their ability to keep innovating; (b) a strong community that believes in the product and token.

Kinsa: What do you look for in terms of team experience and background in the companies you invest in?

>Roger: We especially like teams with an entrepreneurial track record, a passion to build and innovate in blockchain as well as strong technical credentials in their field of expertise.
